Mechanical Testing Specialist – Canada (GHQ-Mississauga)

As our Mechanical Testing Specialist, your purpose in this role will be to provide support to product development and R&D teams by overseeing a mechanical testing laboratory. Secondary responsibilities will include product and process development projects. Working in our laboratory, under the supervision of our senior engineers, you will test and inspect parts to make sure they meet industry standards for composition, strength, performance, etc.

Some regular tasks will involve developing mechanical testing protocols, documenting and organizing test results, and communicating those results to our engineers. You will also be communicating with external labs, reading and analyzing reports, and finding opportunities for improvement.

In general, you will be a knowledgeable and resourceful member of our laboratory team, who can provide top-notch support and testing for our range of products.

  • Supports the development of program verification plans: defining tasks, test events, test configuration, hardware planning, test facility selection, coordination and all appropriate documentation.
  • Creates set-up inspection forms along with necessary testing profile templates.
  • Develops and validates new test methods to help continuously expand lab testing capabilities.
  • Records, analyzes and reports test results.
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available through predicting and monitoring inventory levels.
  • Develops method SWIs for testing equipment.
  • Troubleshoots issues in the lab and document lessons learned for continued learning.
  • Understands safety and environmental regulations and standards as they apply to testing and powdered metal manufacturing.
  • Organizes testing lab areas and implement 5S philosophy.
  • Collaborates and partners with outsourced technical support labs.
  • Develops network to provide required maintenance and support for test equipment.
  • Generates and provides input to test plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma or certificate in a metallurgic, mechanical, industrial, or related field
  • Completed or willingness to complete Powder Metal Training Level 1 certification
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably working with metals (especially powdered metals) for the purposes of manufacturing
  • Strong computer skills, and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience documenting laboratory results, and communicating those findings clearly
  • Ability to lift 25lbs+
