Automation Process Engineering Specialist – Canada (PMDS)

Job Description:

As a member of the Engineering team the Automation Process Engineering Specialist reports to the Automation Program Manager. The Automation Process Engineering Specialist is responsible for providing technical support with regards to automation/integration activities within the facility.


  • Participate in definition, planning and implementation of automation projects
  • Work with design groups internally and externally to transcribe blue prints for powder metal products with reference to robotics and automation.
  • Conduct or participate in APQP Teams, work closely with suppliers, customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Develop timelines (Gantt Charts) and manage timely planning, execution of projects, report on deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to automation technologies and process knowledge within the organization through research and development.
  • Participate in the floor plan design for product line and develop alternatives for product & process flow
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities with existing and new equipment, support trouble shooting and problem solving activities, generate cost and report on deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Program and troubleshoot control systems on both new and existing projects including:
    • Plc & Hmi: Allen Bradley, Siemens, Motoman and Fanuc
    • Robotics: Fanuc, Motoman, Abb and Denso
    • Vision systems: Cognex and Fanuc develop and justify integration of automated operations
  • Ensures that the requirements of the Quality Management System and Environmental Health and Safety Systems are met.
  • Other automation and continuous improvement Process Engineering Specialist initiatives and projects as assigned.


  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering/diploma in Automation/Robotics
  • Project Management Certificate or work experience equivalent
  • Experience in automotive industry, manufacturing and design considered an asset
  • Good organizational skills, be a self-starter, be able to work both independently and on a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate effectively will all levels of the organization
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and make decisive decisions


  • 5 Years proven technical manufacturing experience related to automation & robotics preferred, including programming of the following:
    • Plc & Hmi: Allen Bradley, Siemens, Motoman and Fanuc
    • Robotics: Fanuc, Motoman, Abb and Denso
    • Vision systems: Cognex and Fanuc
  • University/college level mathematical skills; able to perform engineering calculations and cost assessments.
